Important Disclaimer (Please Read This Part)

This page doesn’t offer legal advice. If your rights have been violated, we strongly recommend speaking with a lawyer. There may be other actions you can take, including through your internet service provider (ISP).

The steps below are here to help AITAH.app respond to DMCA complaints, but they’re no replacement for proper legal guidance.

How to File a DMCA Takedown Notice

If you believe that your copyrighted work has been posted on AITAH.app without permission, here’s what to do. You’ll need to send us a written notice, and yes, all the following steps are required to move things forward properly.

What to Include in Your Notice

Please include the following 7 items in your DMCA takedown request:

STEP 1: Clearly Identify Your Copyrighted Work

Give us enough detail to understand exactly what work is being violated. Include a URL to the original (if online), an ISBN (if published), or any other specific identifying info.

STEP 2: Point to the Infringing Content

Tell us exactly where the unauthorized version appears on AITAH.app, include the specific URL.

STEP 3: Provide Your Contact Info

Give us your full name, email address (required), and phone number (optional but helpful).

STEP 4: Help Us Notify the Uploader

If possible, include contact info (usually an email) for the person or entity that posted the infringing content.

STEP 5: Include This Legal Statement

“I have a good faith belief that the use of the copyrighted material described above as allegedly infringing is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.”

STEP 6: Confirm the Accuracy

“I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.”

STEP 7: Add Your Digital Signature

Typing your name at the bottom of the message will serve as your digital signature.

Where to Send It

Email your complete notice to us at: [email protected]

Sending incomplete or inaccurate requests may delay the process, so double-check that you’ve included everything.

How to File a Counter-Notification

If content you posted on AITAH.app was removed after a DMCA takedown request, and you believe that removal was a mistake or misidentification, you have the right to file a counter-notification under sections 512(g)(2) and (3) of the DMCA.

We’re committed to fairness on both sides, here’s how you can respond:

What to Include in Your Counter-Notice

If you believe your content was taken down unfairly, please include these 4 elements in your email:

STEP 1: Identify What Was Removed

Let us know exactly what content was removed or disabled. Include the URLs or any unique identifiers we used when notifying you.

STEP 2: Share Your Info

Include your full name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. You also need to state that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court in your area, and that you’ll accept legal service from the person who filed the original claim, or their representative.

STEP 3: Include This Legal Statement

“I swear, under penalty of perjury, that I have a good faith belief that each item of content identified above was removed or disabled as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled, or that the material identified by the complainant has been removed or disabled at the URL identified and will no longer be shown.”

STEP 4: Digitally Sign It

Just like the original notice, your typed name at the end of the message counts as your signature.

Send It To Us

Email your counter-notice to: [email protected]

Once we receive your counter-notification, we may reinstate the content, unless the original complainant files a lawsuit within 10–14 business days.
